The European Society for Iranian Studies
is a Rome-based non-profit institution aimed at developing
a European network of academics, scholars and experts on
Iranian politics, economy, history and socio-religious issues.
The European Society for Iranian Studies was founded in
2005 to support and promote the field of Iranian studies
and research at an international level in Europe and worldwide.
The Society develops studies in economic, political, military,
social and cultural change in Iran in the twentieth century
as well as the expectations for change in the twenty-first
century.
The Society has a large number of contacts worldwide, and
participation is open to all those interested. Moreover,
the Society utilizes mother-tongue specialists with solid
experience in analyses and interpretation of regional events,
promoting also the translation and the distribution of Iranian
texts, books and papers among its associates.
The Society’s range of operations comprises all the
areas of the world with an Iranian legacy such as Central
Asia, Iraq, the Persian Gulf countries, the Indian subcontinent
as well as the modern political state of Iran.
The Institute also works with Iranian humanists and social
scientists, favoring their participation in meetings, seminars
and conferences.
Mission:
• To develop and increase studies in economic, political,
military, social, and cultural change in Iran in the twentieth
century.
• To collect and publish the experiences of those
in the public and private sectors directly involved in planning
and administering Iran's socioeconomic development, with
particular reference to Iran's national and international
politics, to the development, planning and the evolution
of the energy industry; human rights, environmental protection,
industrial development, communications, and higher education.
• To provide high quality material for researchers,
entrepreneurs, government officials and people at large.
• To encourage academic cooperation in Iranian studies,
the Society sponsors lectures, seminars and conferences
by eminent scholars at universities, and conducts joint
programs with educational and cultural institutions on subjects
concerning Iranian studies to support the advancement of
knowledge and understanding of Iran and Iranian culture
for the non-Iranians.
• To gather an extensive and up-to-date research library
with a comprehensive collection of materials benefiting
both the students and the staff.
• To promote Iranian studies the Society offers an
annual prize of € 750,00 for the best dissertation.
In addition, the Society may also help toward the publication
of outstanding dissertations
The European Society for Iranian Studies
publishes The European Journal of Iranian Studies, four
times per year. The Journal is free for associates.
The European Society for Iranian Studies
organizes a yearly conference, inviting experts and scholars
from all over the world to debate specific issues.
