CENTER FOR SOMALI STUDIES
The Center for Somali Studies (CSS) at Globe
Research and Publishing is a research institution aimed
at fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration
among international professionals and academic experts in
order to collect existing information and offer updated
analysis on Somalia and its political, economic, military,
cultural and social performance.
Somalia has been long neglected by the international community
because of civil war and government dissolution. Updated
available information is often incomplete and informal,
its sources consisting of ad hoc surveys - conducted by
NGOs, humanitarian organizations and researchers - and testimonies
of local governmental and non-governmental professionals,
journalists, migrants and individuals having experienced
the country during the last decades.
The priority mission of the CSS consists in providing researchers,
entrepreneurs, government officials and the public at large
with high quality information resources for a clear and
unambiguous understanding of the country’s changing
fortunes, with particular reference to the causes and perspectives
of the current enduring crisis.
Based on research outcomes, and building on the historical
relationship between
Italy and Somalia, CSS aims at identifying areas of common
interest for possible cooperation for social-economic development
of the country in the future.
Mission:
• To organize meetings, seminars and international
conferences in Italy and abroad
• To provide a country profile with up-dated information
for researchers, entrepreneurs, government officials and
the public at large
• To collect existing official statistical data in
a comprehensive electronic data-base for free dissemination
on the CSS website
• To organize a comprehensive electronic library,
including free documents available on the web and bibliographic
references
• To publish country monographs and articles on Somalia’s
socio-economic, political and military performance and its
future perspectives.
